Colorful Tranquility

Jan 24, 2024 | Featured Artist

As a creative design studio, we have a special place in our hearts for local artists. We regularly host artists to give them the opportunity to showcase their work. Amanda Cole is our current featured artist, and her gorgeous work is already calming the atmosphere of our studio.

Amanda began her journey into art at a young age, beginning with drawing and eventually moving into paint as her primary medium. She explains, “I’ve been drawing since I was young. I used to take the Sunday comics and redraw them. I started painting in high school many years ago.” Her artwork has grown into more than a hobby, as she has participated in multiple shows and exhibitions through the years. “I also love talking to people about art at events, which I wouldn’t get to do if I didn’t create the art!”

A Love of New Places

Amanda’s inspiration for her work comes from a sense of wanderlust. She states, “My work is a representation of all the places I want to go and see.” Select pieces from her collection show colorful, abstract landscapes, allowing viewers to dream of their own destinations. She also brings a unique approach to painting florals, as her bouquets are as interesting as they are beautiful.

Amanda creates uniquely shaped color blocks with acrylic paint. She gives insight into her process, noting, “I paint several layers over each color block to get the opaque look of my work because using oils would take forever with the drying time.” These blocks come together in unity to create a cohesive work that both inspires and calms the viewer.

Embracing the Calm

The calming quality of Amanda’s work comes from her own intrinsic experience as she creates. “Painting has always been my quiet time, especially working a regular 9-5 job.” Many have noted the tranquility of her landscapes and florals, a compliment she gladly accepts. “I’ve heard many times over the years that my work creates a sense of calm in people, and that makes me happy,” she says. “I feel calm when I create them, so I’m glad that is the same feeling that is conveyed to most.”
