Creative New Things for Our Oklahoma Design Team

Apr 8, 2022 | Creative, Reflections and Projections

Our Oklahoma design team sets new goals for our studio every year. In 2021, our goal was to persevere through any challenges so we could grow as a team and help our clients succeed. To promote growth for our clients and ourselves, we focused on expanding our services in new and creative ways. For example, our new techniques for Oklahoma aerial photography allowed us to add interesting elements to our OKC web designs and brought a unique and beautiful perspective to our wedding photography services.

As a team, we also set goals and challenges for ourselves outside of the myheartcreative studio. This year, we each tried to learn two new creative things. Whether we practiced a new skill, perfected a hobby, or focused on completing a specific project, taking the time to be creative in our daily lives helps us bring a new and unique perspective to every project that we work on.

New Skills for Our Oklahoma Design Team.

What April Learned:

In 2021, April’s first creative project was learning a new crochet pattern to make a blanket. April decided to work on this project because she enjoys crocheting, loves blankets, and wanted to challenge herself by trying something new (also, she’s cold a lot). For this project, she learned how to do a popcorn stitch and followed a blanket pattern that she had not tried before.

For her second creative thing, April worked on a counted cross-stitch angel that her grandmother had started. While working on this project, April was able to practice a skill that she had not done in years. It was also at a much larger scale than her previous cross-stitch projects. Her grandmother taught her how to cross-stitch as a child, so finishing the project was a way to connect with those happy memories after her grandmother passed.

What Kristen Learned:

In 2021, Kristen’s first creative project was learning how to crochet. Kristen focused on this skill because she had tried to learn it several years ago but did not get very far (crocheting made a lot more sense after she found left-handed tutorials). She decided to make a blanket to give to her niece as a 2nd birthday gift. Kristen was inspired to do this because two of her great-grandmothers would make blankets for birthday presents.

For her second creative thing, Kristen learned how to press flowers. The flowers and greenery that she used for this project were part of her bridesmaid’s bouquet from a friend’s wedding. Because the plants were still bright and colorful over a week after they were cut, she wanted to save them in a way that would still show their beauty, so she pressed and framed them.

What Amy Learned:

Amy has been gardening and growing anything green she can get her hands on since 2012! She really enjoys the learning and experimenting sides of gardening and has become a houseplant specialist in her own right. This year, Amy learned to propagate and grow 8 new species of plants. Some of her favorites are a beautiful Tradescantia and the new plant babies from her Spade Leaf Philodendron. The Philodendron used to belong to Amy’s grandmother, so its propagated plants are very special.

Learning and growing in her spirituality is also important to Amy as she leads with her heart. In 2021, Amy completed a read-through of the entire Bible for the fifth time. Not only did she complete 365 days’ worth of the Bible plan, but she also participated in an entirely new reading plan which is now a new favorite for her, The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobble.

What Sam Learned:

Sam’s personal hobbies cross over into work as he truly LOVES what he does. This year, he studied business operations in 2 countries outside of the US, learned and complied with new FAA regulations for our Oklahoma aerial photography services, and studied countless software programs to support the team as we adapted to many new tools this year.

But, the man does have to eat, and so do we. To focus on creativity in 2021, Sam tried 11 new recipes out on his family and friends. One fan-favorite was pan-seared brussels sprouts and roasted butternut squash with cranberries, maple syrup, and pecans. More favorites were:

  • Cranberry Pistachio Cheese Log
  • Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast
  • Loaded Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Granny’s Pear Cake

This year, he was even gifted a “Chef Sam” apron for Christmas as his culinary passions are beginning to be known and enjoyed by many.
