Website Design Dallas: How to Create Flow in a Blog

Dec 6, 2022 | Content Writing

Blogging has become a staple these days for website design Dallas, with every other person writing and creating their own content. Some blogs have exceptional views and engagement, whereas some blogs don’t get even a single view. What could be the culprit?

There are many reasons why a Dallas web design blog might fall short, but one of the biggest reasons is poor blog flow. Typically, a blog doesn’t flow well because it has poor, even sometimes chaotic, structure. The writer isn’t clear about what he is writing, jumping from one idea to another without closing the previous one.

This makes the reader confused about the content. Ultimately, they lose interest and often switch to another page or close the site entirely.

What Is the Solution to Blog Flow Issues?

If you want to retain flow in your blog to keep your audience’s interest, simply create an outline. Outlines are a physical representation of your thought process; they allow you to maintain a structured flow of ideas that are easy to follow.

Outlines require some brainstorming to truly be effective. Creating a full-fledged outline (with a little more detail than short bullet points) will give you the flow that your audience needs. Moreover, you won’t miss a single detail in your article if you have created a powerful outline.

Below are some simple and easy steps to create a great outline. Keep in mind that you are free to switch or skip any of these tips depending upon your writing style. However, your goal should be achieving a detailed outline that can help you create a cohesive and logical piece.

1. Brainstorm Takeaways For Your Audience

Before you write your outline, you need to do some brainstorming. It’s not necessary to organize your thoughts at this stage, but the whole idea is to collect all your thoughts in one place. Remember the bubble brainstorming maps from elementary school? That’s exactly what you’ll do.

First, you need to have your topic decided. What idea are you going to write about? Most of the time, writers have this part figured out in their heads before even touching a pencil.

Once your topic is decided, think about what you want your readers to take away after reading your blog. What do you want them to learn about your topic? These takeaways are not the central idea of your post but small things related to your topic that you think will grab your readers’ attention.

Let’s say I’m covering a topic on how to quickly lose weight. What will be my takeaways? I probably want my readers to learn the following points:

  • How a healthy lifestyle and body can help a person gain self-confidence
  • What are healthy eating habits
  • Foods that are responsible for weight gain
  • Foods to avoid
  • Simple exercises and how often they should be done
  • Meal plan to follow

Writing out the takeaways can help your focus remain on your topic without floating thoughts clogging your ideas. Your thoughts have now become more concrete and established, making them easier to work with for your outline.

2. Create An Effective Working Title

Time to officially start on your outline. Nailing a title is the first and the most crucial step in the process. This will help you focus on the topic you are writing about, helping you avoid jumping between different topics. Your title should be a cohesive thought that lets the reader know clearly what you’ll be discussing. Take this title for example:

“Weight Loss Plan”- This example does not give your audience any context about why you’ll be discussing weight loss plans; it just names the subject of what you’re writing about.

A more specific title that gives the reader more context could be, “How To Lose Weight Fast,” or “Lose Weight Fast With This Easy Plan.” With these titles, the visitor knows exactly what they are going to read about in the blog because the title grabs their attention.

3. Make Sections to Organize Your Takeaways

Now that you have a title and your takeaways, it’s time to place your takeaways into a structured order. Arrange your ideas according to a method that works best for you: chronologically, thematically, order of importance, and more. Most blogs tend to use order of importance, with the most important details being saved for last so your audience will remember them more.

Some of your takeaways may be used as main points, and others may be used as supporting details for those points. Once you have your main takeaways ordered, list them in your outline as shown below:

Title: Five Tips On How To Lose Weight Fast

1. Introduction

2. How can a healthy lifestyle affect your physical and mental health?

3. What are healthy eating habits?

4. Simple exercises to do.

5. Meal Plan

Breaking It Down Further

Once your main takeaways are placed into sections, then you’ll begin to fill in some details about each takeaway underneath by using bullet points. This provides you more clarity on what specific details to remember when writing about that section. Be as specific as you’d like. Here is an example of expanding on your main points:

5. Meal Plan

    • Breakfast ideas
      • Gluten Free Breakfast Sandwiches
    • Lunch ideas
      • Classic Caesar Salad
    • Dinner ideas
      • Vegan Meatloaf

4. Add Links to Your Data, Examples, and Dallas Web Design

Citing valid sources when quoting facts and figures or examples is beneficial in two ways. You don’t need to explain an example if you link it to another detailed topic about that example. Likewise, linking to other content enhances your post and supports your arguments. Linking to other areas of your Dallas web design also promotes more internal traffic.

5. Revise, Remove, and Reorder Details in Each Section

After adding more sections, you now have a clear outline close to your content idea. However, this is not the final time to start writing. You may need to revise, remove, and reorganize the details and headings in each section. The point is to remove the unnecessary bits and turn your idea into great, informative, entertaining, and relevant content with an easy flow that has no loops or holes.
